Enough is enough for state taxes on Cigarettes

While I once again admit smoking is a bad habit, I must ask, when is enough enough?

While I once again admit smoking is a bad habit, I must ask, when is enough enough? The health groups call for another $1 per pack cigarette tax increase (to make it $3 state tax per pack) -- they say to cut down on health care costs and keep young children from taking up the habit. If that is so, let them call on the state to start testing anyone who receives any kind of state aid to pass a test making sure they are not spending taxpayer dollars on this sinful habit, and it will make sure they are living healthy. (It is about the peoples' health right? The state wouldn't want to assist in a deadly habit.) This is nothing More than another tax increase on the working man to pay for a failed Dirigo policy that does not work. Big Macs and Coke are bad for people, where is the dollar tax? Twinkies and coffee are bad for people, tax that too, liberals. Maine Democrats better be thankful. Too many Mainers who complain do not get off of their bottoms and vote or Democrats would not hold any office here. Republicans will fight this in Augusta, but being outnumbered they will fail and once again taxes will rise on the poor working man. New Hampshire's cigarette sales will rise and Maine's projected revenues will fall again and next year ... Well, we will go over this again. Dirk Emery Detroit [email protected]
